The Lyncourt Wesleyan Church Heritage-Watchorn Scholarship Fund, hereafter referred to as the Heritage Fund, will be awarded on the basis of service on the part of the applicant. This service is to the Lyncourt Wesleyan Church, the Central New York District of the Wesleyan Church, or the community to which the local church serves.
Applicants must be attending or enrolled in a college/university of their choice for an undergraduate or graduate degree program, enrolled in F.L.A.M.E., or in a vocational or trade certification program. These funds must be used within their course of study. Applicant must have regularly attendedthe Lyncourt Wesleyan Church for a minimum of one year and attend it or its affiliate (another Wesleyan church or a work sponsored by the Lyncourt Wesleyan Church) during the academic year and while on vacation from school.
To apply to the Heritage Fund submit an application form along with a minimum two page typewritten testimony outlining how you came to know Christ as personal Savior, your current walk with Christ, and the service you have been involved in since that time. This service needs to include any involvement in local church ministry, district ministry, and community ministry (e.g.: working with the elderly, fire department, etc.). Also include what area God is currently calling you into and why.
As a prospective post high school student, it is our expectation that the writing you submit be of good quality. Rules of convention (grammar, punctuation, spelling, sentence structure, etc.) need to be followed.
Application can be made no sooner than February 1st of the year in which the Heritage Fund is being awarded. Mailed applications must be post marked by June 1st. We are not responsible for lost, stolen, misdirected or unsent mail. Accepted candidates for The Heritage Fund awards will be announced on a Sunday in July of that year in the morning church service.
Awards will be granted as funds are available from interest on the principal funds. The principal funds are not to be used for the awards but to be left intact for future award funds.
Awards will be a determined amount that will be reflected by the availability of funds. We reserve the right to divide available funds by chosen applicants. No particular dollar amount award is guaranteed.
Applications will be judged on the following basis:
- 40% written testimony (Repeat applicants must update their last submission)
- 40% ministry involvement
- 20% financial need
All additional funding sources and amounts must be submitted with this application.
Applicants must submit a transcript for the last school year completed.
Any decisions that need to be made concerning eligibility, awards, etc. will be made by the acting Scholarship committee with the confirmation of the Local Board of Administration of the Lyncourt Wesleyan Church. All decisions are final.
If the Lyncourt Wesleyan Church ceases to exist then any decisions that need to be made will be made by the acting Central New York District of the Wesleyan Church.
